Overview: When hiring employees in Utah, you must register for both State Income Tax Withholding and Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax. Utah provides a unified registration process through the OneStop Business Registration portal, which issues both account numbers.

Registration Steps

1. Register Your Business

  • Click Continue and then Create an Account

  • Complete the application by following the guided steps

  • When registration is complete, you will receive:

    • State Withholding Account Number (from the Utah State Tax Commission)

    • Unemployment Insurance Account Number (from the Department of Workforce Services)

  • You may also print documentation if needed to obtain a city business license

  • Be sure to use the same email address from any prior Utah OneStop accounts to retain dashboard access

2. Set Up a Username and Password for TAP Access

  • Click Sign Up

  • Select Access My Business Accounts

  • Complete the registration steps to gain online access to your Utah tax accounts

Next Steps

Once registration is complete:

  • Update your Buddy Punch account with your Utah Withholding and Unemployment Account Numbers. These are required for all interactions with the Utah State Tax Commission and the Department of Workforce Services to ensure your account is accurate.
