State Withholding Income Tax

Tax Agency: Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS)

Registration Steps

Step 1: Register for a Connecticut Tax Registration Number

  • Under Business Registration, click “New Business / Need a CT Registration Number”

  • Review registration requirements and click “Next”

  • Select the reason: “Requesting a Connecticut Registration number / Opening a new business”

  • Create a username and password as part of the registration

  • Submit your application and print the confirmation page for your records

Step 2: Locate Your Registration Number

  • Your Connecticut Tax Registration Number will appear in the top left corner

Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax

Important! Required for employers with one or more employees, full or part-time.

Registration Steps

  1. Click Create an Account

  2. On the “New User Sign Up” screen, read instructions and click “Proceed”

  3. On the next screen, select “Yes” when asked if you’ve engaged employees in Connecticut

  4. Upon successful sign-up, click “Access your account now”

  5. Enter your FEIN and continue registration

  6. Complete verification; you will receive your registration letter by mail within 5–7 business days

Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML)

Tax Agency: Connecticut Paid Leave Authority

Tax Type: Paid Family and Medical Leave

Registration Steps

Step 1: Create a CT.gov Account

  • Click “Create an Account”

  • Set up a username and password

  • Verify your email with the code sent (within 15 minutes)

Step 2: Register with the Paid Leave Authority

  • Click “Get Started” → review requirements → then click “Register”

  • Complete all 5 steps of the registration

  • Check for an email confirmation after submission

Your account number for CT Paid Leave will be the same as your FEIN.
