Overview: Managers can create and assign Open Shifts from the Buddy Punch website. Open Shifts allow you to schedule shifts without immediately assigning them to an employee, but they must be manually assigned before employees can work them.
Important! Employees cannot claim Open Shifts themselves — shifts must be manually assigned to them.
Instructions:
Create an Open Shift
1. To create an Open Shift, start by navigating to the Schedule page:
2. Once on the schedule, you'll see the Open Shifts line at the top. Click a day on the Open Shift line:
3. This will populate a shift creation box with the Assign Shift To defaulted to unassigned. Leave the Assign Shift To option unassigned and enter the other shift details. Click Add Shift when done:
4. Once added, you'll see the shift on the Open Shift line at the top of the schedule:
Assign an Open Shift
1. To assign an Open Shift, you can either click the Open Shift and drag it to an employee:
2. Or you can click the Open Shift:
2. Click the Assign Shift To dropdown and select an employee's name:
3. And then Save your changes once done:
