How To Enable/Disable Mobile Punches

Step-by-step instructions on how to disable mobile punches from the Buddy Punch website as an Administrator.

Overview: If you don't want employees to punch time on their mobile devices (whether using our app or a mobile web browser), you can disable mobile punches on the Account Settings page. The account-wide option applies to all employees by default, but you can also override it for individual employees using the per-employee Mobile Punching setting.

Instructions:

Enable/Disable Mobile Punches Account-Wide

1. Start by going to Settings --> Account Settings:

2. You'll then want to either check or uncheck the Disable Punch In/Out on Mobile Devices option and Save once done:

Enable/Disable Mobile Punches for a Specific Employee

Each employee follows the account-wide setting by default, but you can override it for individual employees.

1. From the Employees page, select View next to an employee to be taken to their profile, then click Edit:

2. Under the Permissions section, you'll find the Mobile Punching dropdown:

3. Choose one of the following options and Save once done:

  • Use account setting - the employee follows the account-wide option above (default).

  • Allowed - the employee can punch in/out on mobile devices, even if mobile punches are disabled account-wide.

  • Not allowed - the employee cannot punch in/out on mobile devices, even if mobile punches are allowed account-wide.

Once saved, the employee's profile will show their Mobile Punching setting under the Permissions section. If they're set to use the account setting, the effective value is shown in parentheses, e.g., Use account setting (Allowed):

Note: This setting covers the mobile app, mobile browser, and mobile kiosk. Punches from a desktop browser or desktop kiosk are not affected.

FAQs

Q: Can I enable/disable mobile punches on a per-employee basis?

A: Yes. Each employee has a Mobile Punching setting on their profile that can override the account-wide option. See the "Enable/Disable Mobile Punches for a Specific Employee" section above.

Q: If I disable mobile punches, does that impact the app on an iPad or other tablet?

A: If mobile punches are disabled, the Buddy Punch mobile app on the iPad will be blocked from being used to punch in or out. However, employees can still use the device's web browser (such as Safari or Chrome) to log in and punch in.
