Overview: The Device Lock lets Administrators tie employees to a specific device—like their work computer—to prevent logins elsewhere. When you create a Device Lock, our system places a secure cookie on the chosen machine. That cookie acts as a "fingerprint", so Buddy Punch recognizes and enforces that the employee can only sign in from that exact device.

Important! The Device Lock can only be used on our website and is not compatible with our smartphone app.

Employees can be assigned to multiple Device Locks.

Device Locks place a cookie on the device. If cookies are cleared on the device, the Device Lock will need to be assigned to the device again.

Instructions:

Create a Device Lock

1. To create a Device Lock, start by clicking Settings in the top navigation, followed by Device Locks:

2. On the Device Locks page, click the + Add a New Device Lock button:

3. You will want to enter the name of your Device Lock and assign the appropriate employees. If you are on the device you want to lock employees to, click the Save & Assign this Device button:

4. If you are not on the device you want to lock employees to, click Save instead:

5. And then follow the steps in the next section below.

Assign a Device Lock

Important! When you assign a Device Lock, you need to do so from the device you want to lock the employees to.

For example, if you want to lock employees to a workplace computer, you must log in to your account from that computer and assign the Device Lock.

1. Once you're on the device you want to lock employees to, log in and click Settings in the top navigation, followed by Device Locks:

2. On the Device Locks page, click Edit next to the Device Lock that was created in the first section:

3. You will then want to click the Save & Assign this Device button:

4. You'll be taken back to the Device Locks page, where you'll see a message stating that this device is currently connected to the (lock name):

You will repeat this process for any other Device Locks that need to be created.

FAQ

Q: I set up a Device Lock, but it's no longer working.

A: Device Locks place a cookie on the device. If cookies are cleared on the device, the device lock will need to be assigned to the device again. If you're not sure if cookies are being cleared, it's best to check with your IT department.

Q: Can the Device Lock be used with the Buddy Punch app?
A: No, the Device Lock feature can only be used from the Buddy Punch website. However, you can create a device lock on a mobile device by logging into the website from your mobile browser. Employees will then need to use the mobile browser moving forward to get punched in.

Q: Can I assign an employee to more than one Device Lock?

A: Yes, an employee can be assigned to as many Device Locks as needed.
