How to Convert a Paid Break to Unpaid

Overview: When using the manual paid break option, you can specify the maximum paid break time before the break converts to unpaid.


Convert a Paid Break to Unpaid

1. To set up a paid manual break that automatically converts to unpaid after a certain length of time, start by clicking Settings in the top navigation followed by Break Rules:

2. On the Break Rule page, click +Add a New Break Rule:

3. When creating a manual break you'll need to specify the:

  • Break Rule Name: What employees will see when adding or taking a manual break.

  • Pay Type (Paid or Unpaid): Paid in this scenario

  • If the employee can enter the break. (If the "Employees can enter this break" option is left unchecked, only managers or administrators can add the break to employee time cards.)

  • The minimum amount of time the employee is required to stay on the break

  • The maximum amount of time before the break converts to unpaid

  • Which unpaid break your employees are automatically switched to when the threshold is reached

  • Which employees are assigned to the break

4. Once you've made your selections, Save once done.

5. Moving forward, any employees assigned to the break rule who meet the maximum threshold set will automatically have their break converted to the unpaid break selected.
